English genius?

I don't think so. It's just my thing. Truthfully, I'm a little embarrassed that I missed two. One was careless. . .its vs it's. . .answered impulsively pre-coffee. My bad. The other one was a little more challenging: Hanged vs Hung. I answered that either was okay. According to the answer key, in references to death by hanging (which this was in context), hanged is always used. Hung is used in all other instances. I'm not sure if this is a grammar rule, or proprietary. I answered based on whether hanged or hung was the correct past tense of hang without considering context. . .ALWAYS context!

Fish Tales

tn_SamStriper.jpg
We're having fish for dinner, thanks to Sam. Well, thanks to Jeremy and Matt, who took Sam fishing early this morning. Thanks, guys, for investing in my kid. Sam had a blast. He caught four fish, which Jeremy helped him filet (which is a good thing. . .otherwise they would have stayed in my freezer for a long time).

A random thought

I think one of the best things about this millenium is that the word "google" has become a verb.

Always a sucker

for online quizzes. Or any quizzes. Truth is, I have always liked taking tests. Just not homework. That was one reason I preferred college over HS. As long as you could take the tests and complete the term paper, it didn't usually matter if you got the homework done. Anyway, here are my results. Seems to mesh with these "Left or Right brained?" quizzes I keep taking that all say I'm almost equally left and right brained. Does that mean I'm bipolar? J/K

I just wish my "All around intelligence" made me smart enough to interpret the graph. 20% applied, 0% learned. . .where did the other 80% of my brain go???

All-Around Smart

You are all-around smart. Essentially, that means that you are a good combination of your own knowledge and experience, along with having learned through instruction - and you are equally as good with theoretical things as you are with real-world, applied things. You have a well-rounded brain.

20% applied intelligence
0% learned intelligence

CCS wins in Odyssey tournament

tn_DSC_0064.JPG

CCS competed for the first time in the Odyssey of the Mind state competition. Odyssey of the Mind is a competition in creative thinking. Fifth and sixth grade students tried out in the fall to be on one of the three teams CCS sent to the competition. One team was made up of only sixth graders, one was made up of only fifth graders, and one was a mix of both. Ethan was on the mixed team, which had to compete at the middle school level because of the sixth graders on the team. The teams chose one of five problems to solve, and have been working on their solution since late October.
After an all day competition, the winners were announced. The all 6th grade team won first place in their division for their solution to problem 3. The mixed team, Ethan's team, won 2nd place in their division for their solution to problem 5 . The teams were very proud and excited to be rewarded for an incredible amount of time and work. Ethan had mixed feelings, though, because he is so exhausted, and their 2nd place win sends them to compete in the World Finals held in Iowa at the end of May. Part of him was ready to be done, but after a week of rest he'll be ready to gear up for Iowa.

Alias update

Just thought I'd provide the following info for those who care:

". . .according to Kristin on E!, Alias is not coming back until April 19th. It will then air a 2 hour premiere, 4 episodes, then a 2 hour finale. All of this will be on Wednesday nights at 8."

So, Mako, you should have your tv room back by then. But I'll tape it anyway. Supposedly there will be 8 episodes, but there is some debate as to whether or not they will get them all in. I'm encouraged to think these last eps will be pretty good. I read an interview w/JJ which said that if the show was going to be canceled, he was glad to find out early enough to do the last half of the season right. He feels like he can now do all the things he's wanted to do with Alias, because it doesn't matter if he kills off main characters or ends story lines or whatever. The "powers that be" have promised appearances of Michael Vartan (Vaughn), but haven't said whether that will be in dream, memory or the real thing, as well as Lena Olin (Irina) and Bradley Cooper (Will). I also read somewhere that Anna Espinosa will be in the episode where Sydney's baby is born. Sounds interesting to me.

Ezra Caines Harris

tn_Ezra harris 006.jpg

Congrats go out to my bosom friend, Heather, and her hubby, Jon, on the birth of Ezra. Ezra is their fourth son. . .their oldest, Jonah, is five. Needless to say, Heather has some very busy days ahead of her. But those of us who know Heather know this is exactly what she's always dreamed of, and she wouldn't have it any other way.

In other news, please continue to pray for Stephen. The pain from his tooth is dominating his days and nights right now. The root canal is Friday, but the pain med he's on right now is not really helping as much as he would like. I've never had a bad toothache, but Stephen says the pain extends both up and down, causing not only mouth pain, but severe headaches, too. My husband is not a complainer, but this tooth is really getting to him.
