Joseph will be appearing the Fall Festival at church tomorrow night as Henry the Octopus, well known for his leadership of Henry's Underwater Band, part of the Wiggles entourage. I was particularly pleased with finding a fabric that was close enough to Henry's to make Joseph happy on the $1 table at Walmart. It would have been a $4 costume, but the hat was $5. Oh well. Can you believe that's the same pattern that I used for the penguin last year. Just ad libbed the extra arms/legs/tentacles/whatever. He's happy. So I'm happy. Now I gotta go finish Murray Wiggle (yes, again.)
Posted by willa at Octubre 27, 2006 10:45 PM | TrackBackYou really are gifted at creating all those costumes, it's quite a talent! Most of my efforts when you guys were little looked 'home made', yours look much more professional. I for one am VERY glad Murray is getting a fresh outfit -- to say last years outfit has had a lot of wear would be an understatement. (Oh, and if everyone is done with the penquin costume in your family I know some Perkins that have voiced an interest in inheriting it...
Posted by: Mom at Octubre 28, 2006 11:56 AMActually, Joseph still wears it a couple of times a week, and sleeps in it regularly. Fortunately, Gid is itty bitty, so he'll still be able to wear when Joseph finally outgrows it. (Noah hasn't been able to bring himself to exchange Murray for the penguin).
Posted by: willa at Octubre 28, 2006 01:09 PMHoly cow, that looks so good. My green kite for Gid doesn't even begin to compare. . . Just can't live up to the big sis can I? Give me a few years and maybe I'll pick up a few tips from you.
Posted by: lynnp at Noviembre 1, 2006 12:23 AMOh, you could have done it if you'd have been so inspired. The biggest thing is just learning to sew a basic jumpsuit and hood. I've modified it for all kinds of different costumes. The Henry head is just the penguin head made with fleece instead of flannel, and without the beak. I also added some elastic around the bottom to make it bunchier/rounder like an octopus head instead of elongated like a penguin.
And you really can't beat the kite for originality.
