martes

All is well in Mexico. The Lord has provided us with ideal weather, in that it has been cloudy and rainy in the mornings while we´re doing construction, but clear while we were at the beach and during VBS. We awoke to no running water, but it was back on in time for brief showers after construction. There has been a drought and Casa Hogar is running low on water. We seem to mastering the one minute shower though.
Sydney had a blast last night playing with Marco and hanging out with Marisol. One of the interns, Lisa, taught her to macrame, and she made herself an anklet she´s very proud of.
Many cuts and scrapes but nothing major. Ethan took a sledgehammer to the foot, but seems okay after icing it for a while. . .he went back to work. Ben (who previous members of missions trips will remember as member of Susan´s team, but he is now an intern) almost electricuted himself, but he´s okay. THose of you who know Ben will appreciate how funny it actually was once we knew he was okay. Lots of sore muscles, but the old library is basically gone. We tore down the last of it today to make room for new buildings. The boys, especially Sam, adore the guys from CAK.
Tomorrow is our day off, and Alejandro has given us permission to take Uriel and Jorge to spend the day with us at the beach, McD´s, and the market. We are so excited about the opportunity to spend time with just them again (as Stephen and I did in April). They had a great time looking at the new Mixteco books that we recieved Friday before we left. They are both still getting made fun of a lot, though. . .more at school than at Casa Hogar. Donna said that many of the kids use ´"indio" as an insult. . .instead of saying, "Don´t be an idiot", they say, "Don´t be such an indio(indian)".

Pray for rain, even though we would prefer to have nice weather at the beach tomorrow, we also really don´t want the Casa Hogar cisterns to run dry. We´ll be a really stinky crew coming home if that happens.
Also, please pray specifically for our health and the health of Susan´s team. Her team has been struggling with a stomach virus all week (they´re pretty certain it´s a virus for reasons I won´t go into due to time and space). Please pray that we all stay healthy, and that her team recovers. Also that everyone´s attitude regarding the food (everyone is paranoid because of the illness) will be one that reflects humility and love.

Gonna go so Sam can have a shot at blogging. Joseph and Noah, we love you and I am so proud of you for being good for Nana and Grandpa. Yesterday when we pulled the ceiling of the library down, about a billion roaches and scorpions came running out. I took a picture of one of each for you, Joseph. And also a lizard´s tail that got pulled off in the process. But we didn´t find the lizard. Speaking of, are Liz, Harry and Peyton doing okay?

To my inexperienced eye, the lizards look healthy. Peyton is eating well - crickets and mealworms, and seems mostly regular. Harry doesn't seem interested in crickets, but eats the meal worms. She's only "gone" once. Liz seems OK, but hasn't left the perch. She's "gone" once also (yesterday). I know I've seen Liz eating some of the veggies you prepared for them, but I can't tell if they're really eating much of it, or if instead the volume loss is due to evaporation.

Update on the reptiles: Liz made up for the 'only once' with about three days worth today. I have also observed her eating some of the veggie silage provided for her benefit. I still haven't seen her come down off the platform.

While Harry has been no more productive on the tail end of the food-processing cycle, she seems to be back on her feed, at least as far as the live critters are concerned. She's been eating mealworms well all week, but only yesterday did she show an interest in the crickets. Yesterday she cleaned out those that were in her cage when she arrived, and made short order of the dozen or so I gave her today.

Peyton has been quite enthusiastic about any of the live critters that we've turned loose in his abode.
